Abstract
Background: Anemia in pregnancy remains a public health problem in Indonesia, posing serious risks to both mothers and fetuses. One of the government’s efforts to prevent anemia is the provision of iron tablets. However, suboptimal consumption levels remain a barrier to anemia prevention, particularly among third-trimester pregnant women. The objective of this study is to examine the relationship between the quantity and method of iron tablet consumption with anemia among third trimester pregnant women at West Dompu Health Center. Method: This study employed an analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 66 third-trimester pregnant women were selected as samples using purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) handbook, and subsequently analyzed using the chi-square test with a significance level of 90% (α = 0.1). Results: The results demonstrate the majority of respondents have a good level of iron tablet consumption in terms of both quantity and method; however, cases of anemia are still found among some respondents. It also shows a significant relationship between the quantity of iron tablet consumption and anemia in third-trimester pregnant women (p = 0.001), as well as between the method of iron tablet consumption and anemia (p = 0.000). Conclusion: Adequate quantity and proper method of iron tablet consumption are associated with a lower incidence of anemia among third-trimester pregnant women. Education and regular monitoring of iron tablet consumption need to be strengthened to reduce the risk of anemia.
