Abstract
Baby blues is a condition of sadness and stress
experienced by mothers after childbirth, influenced by
physical
limitations,
maternal
age,
and
suboptimal
psychological adaptation. Being too young or too old can
increase the risk of experiencing baby blues. In addition,
spousal support plays an important role in helping mothers
through this period. Data from BKKBN shows that 57% of
mothers in Indonesia experience baby blues.
This study aims to determine the relationship between
maternal age and spousal support with the incidence of baby
blues in postpartum mothers.
This study used a cross-sectional approach. The sample
consisted of 30 postpartum mothers at Awet Muda Narmada
General Hospital, selected through purposive sampling, with
criteria of postpartum mothers on days 3 to 10 after
delivery. Data collection used questionnaires on spousal
support and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS).
Data analysis was conducted using the chi-square statistical
test with a significance level of α = 0.05, using SPSS.
The results showed that the majority of respondents at
risk of experiencing baby blues were in the young age range
(17–20 years), totaling 16 people (53.3%). Moreover, even
among mothers who received good spousal support, 16 people
(53.3%) were still at risk of experiencing baby blues.
This study concludes that there is a relationship
between maternal age and spousal support with the incidence
of baby blues in postpartum mothers. Future researchers are
encouraged to further explore other factors that may
contribute to the occurrence of baby blues, as this study
has not fully captured all potential causes.
